Therapy Dartmouth Offers Teletherapy to Dartmouth Students

Therapy dartmouth is a new service that offers licensed counseling services to students via phone, video, and chat. The program aims to complement Dartmouth’s existing mental health options for undergraduate and graduate students. The service launched Nov. 1 and is available to any student with a valid Dartmouth email account. The initiative was spearheaded by Dartmouth student groups, including Student Government and the Mental Health Union. Leaders from both organizations worked closely with trustees and senior administrators to select the teletherapy provider, Uwill.

The system makes it easy for students to search and choose a therapist based on their preferences, says Heather Earle, director of the Counseling Center. Students can filter therapists by gender, language, ethnicity, and clinical need, and the program matches them with the best fit. Students can meet with their therapists by phone, video, or text and schedule a session at a time that fits into their busy lives. Students can also choose a therapist who is able to practice in the state where they plan on staying for breaks and off terms, which is important for some students.

A recent survey of Dartmouth students found that most feel they have a support network, but about one in three do not talk to anyone about their mental health needs. The number of students who have considered suicide in the past year is slightly higher than the national average, and underrepresented minority URM students are more likely to report suicidal thoughts. Despite high rates of help-seeking behavior, the survey found that many students believe others would think less of them for seeking mental health treatment.

The College provides free mental health care for all full-time enrolled undergraduate and graduate students, including those on Leave Term or a medical leave of absence. For students who require long-term counseling, the Counseling Center can refer them to a community counselor for fees that may be covered by insurance.

Therapy services at Dartmouth College play a crucial role in supporting the mental health and well-being of students navigating the challenges of academic life and personal growth. Located in Hanover, New Hampshire, Dartmouth College recognizes the importance of providing comprehensive therapy resources to its diverse student population.

Dartmouth’s therapy services are designed to address a wide range of mental health concerns and challenges commonly experienced by college students. Whether grappling with academic stress, relationship issues, anxiety, depression, identity exploration, or trauma, students have access to professional therapists who offer support, guidance, and evidence-based interventions.

One of the key strengths of therapy dartmouth is their accessibility and inclusivity. The college strives to create a welcoming and supportive environment where students from all backgrounds feel comfortable seeking help. Therapists at Dartmouth are trained to provide culturally competent care, acknowledging and respecting the unique experiences and identities of each individual.

Therapy services at Dartmouth encompass various modalities to meet the diverse needs of students. Individual therapy sessions offer students the opportunity to explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences in a confidential and non-judgmental space. Through collaborative goal-setting and therapeutic techniques, students work with therapists to develop coping skills, build resilience, and foster personal growth.

In addition to individual therapy, Dartmouth offers group therapy sessions that provide students with opportunities for peer support and connection. These groups cover a range of topics, including stress management, mindfulness, body image, LGBTQ+ support, and more. Participating in group therapy can help students feel less isolated, gain perspective from others facing similar challenges, and develop a sense of belonging within the Dartmouth community.
